Life in the Firing Line
Avon has sponsored “Life in the Firing Line”, a London-based workshop/seminar looking at the work of TV cameramen, photographers and journalists in some of the most recent trouble spots of the world. Presenters included Giles Duley, a well-known stills photographer who lost three limbs to an IED whilst working in Afghanistan but plans to return there to finish his project in 2012; top flight cameramen Jim Foster and Mark McCauley plus C4 camerawoman Phillipa Collins are also in the line up. Presenting a view from the 'other side of the fence' ex-Para turned freelance cameraman Mike Reece called on his 23 years service to give his take on how the military view 'The Media' and how that relationship can be fostered for the benefit of all. Heads of Security at ITN and BSkyB, Colin Pereira and Craig Summers respectively, discussed how preparation and training should be applied to working in hostile environments. Avon showed its range of CBRN masks and hoods and their application in reporting from a war zone, disaster scenario or “trouble spot”.
